sometimes it can be annoying with chatter or inappropriate clapping, but usually hearing the crowd react can send chills up my spine and puts a smile on my face

5-12-77 - Jack Straw

Is this site unbelievable or what? ...I just "took it for granted" for a while and then something kicked me in the head and I realzied what we have here. All the work by all the people over all the years...it's mind-bending and humbling.

Speaking of auds: I'm not gonna stop posting about Springfield (1974-06-30) until somebody acknowledges
it....check out Greatest Story, beginning of 2nd verse:

My favorite Greatest Story, the puke-wah that Jerry gets sends Weir over the edge. This begs the question as to whether Garcia was actually manipulating the wah-wah pedal or if it was being done elsewhere. In the studio, it's common to manipulate the signal as a post-production effort, so it can be done anywhere in the processing chain. If you've seen some of the early vids of Garcia playing on Estimated, you'll note that he's walking around the stage and not tied to a pedal while he's playing. This says to me that Ramrod may have been doing the pedal manipulation offstage and could have been the culprit in the Springfield puke-wah thing as an offstage prank of sorts.

the reason why Jerry could walk around the stage doing Estimated/Greatest was because around 77 he started using a Mutron Filter instead of a traditional Wah. the Mutron Filter basically does the Wah-ing for you

if you watch vids of him from 74 and before that, he is using a traditional wah (where you have to rock the pedal), and is not walking around the stage

Earl B. Powell:
...geez, I haven't seen you since my return from self-exile. Hope all is well.
I know nothing about music except the "on" button, volume up, volume up more, keep going up.....knock on door --- never answer it.
So if I understand you correctly, there is no way Jerry just did that with only his guitar and no other devices?

(Also, wasn't there something called the "mescalin show" in Springfield? -- any idea when?)

It's really good to see you once again --- AshesRising

The "mescaline show" was 5/11/78. Good show, really strange playing, hilarious vocals, at times the band is just cracking up (during Dancin' for example.) Good show to check out for the novelty & for when you're in that weird mood.

caspers, i love a good audience, especially a sbd-aud matrix, been checking out some Garcia band aud sources of late, and am finding much listening pleasure in the 11/27/77 early & late shows; seriously, barry glassberg was what you might call a "taper artist," a serious contibutor to quality audience recordings; check out this Don't Let Go from the early show, thirty-one minutes of bliss; cheers

a real fun aud is when jerry gets out of jail (was that for the crack and the heroin in that briefcase when he was driving thru SF in a porsche or something at like 60 mph? my mom's fiance told me this.. he's a bit biased)

Anyways, in the bertha that he sings, when he does the "throw me in the jailhouse" the aud goes nuts

I love a good aud and I love the contrast of east coast/ west coast. Throw in a hartford aud and the place goes nuts. Then throw in a frost amp. and listen to the gentle applause as the laid back heads veg out for the day. I think the auds have a personality of their own, much like each show did. I find boards a tad sterile, but I'll still take em.
